NEW YORK — In response to the nationwide rise in gun violence and the recent mass shootings, Gov. Kathy Hochul has announced ten new proposed bills that would tighten gun laws in New York state.
The new measures include:
- Requiring that an individual obtain a license, with a minimum age of 21, to purchase a semi-automatic rifle
- Requiring information-sharing among state, local and federal agencies when guns are used in crimes
- Mandating an identification technology called microstamping for new guns
- Prohibiting the purchase of body armor for anyone who is not engaged in an eligible profession
