First Alert Weather: Yellow Alert issued for heavy rain, potential flooding Wednesday into Thursday

NEW YORK — The CBS2 Weather Team has issued a Yellow Alert for moderate to heavy rain overnight into the early part of Thursday’s commute.

A few bands of light rain passed through the area Wednesday evening with heavier bouts still on track to arrive between 11 p.m. Wednesday and 1 a.m. Thursday. Showers will fill in, and expect some pockets of heavier rain.

By 8 a.m. Thursday, the worst of it will have passed, given the latest track, but there are still some spotty showers expected through the day with one last gasp of rain early Friday morning around 2 a.m.

Please take the rain gear Thursday and grab a heavier coat as it will be raw and damp with a gusty easterly wind that will make it feel even colder.

Expect some sleet or icy travel for the Catskills-Sullivan region and Ulster County, where a winter weather advisory is in effect until noon Thursday.

The majority of the rain will fall overnight Wednesday into Thursday, and expect final totals of 1.75-2.25 inches or more out east. The heaviest rain could be likely over the Twin Forks with over 2 inches possible under the strongest bouts.
